Lyrics for all our songs

Where Were You at Our Barbecue?
My Omnipotent Lord
Bear the Cross Aloft
Jesus, What's Your Middle Name?
Blood of Christ
March for Jesus
Come Turn to Me
If Jesus Were a Plumber
Try and Get By
I Rejoice in Each Day
The Lord, He's Awesome
Thank You Lord
Christ is Coming (Lay the Table)

Where Were You at Our Barbecue?

1. We looked at the sky on the first of July,
A day clear and blue for our barbecue.
We’d sent out a card on which ‘come to our garden’ —
Where were You at our barbecue?

2. We felt quite a thrill when we dusted the grill,
We cleaned it like new for our barbecue.
But inside the larder we found nothing! Nix! Nada! —
Where were You at our barbecue?

3. The guest list was long: some five thousand strong,
Rather a few for a barbecue.
The crowd looked just rav’nous; the larder seemed cav’nous —
Where were You at our barbecue?

4. With only two fishes to put on the dishes,
What a to-do at our barbecue.
One piscine kebab’ll not silence the rabble —
Where were You at our barbecue?

5. We knew not what might ease our roisty invitees,
A mutinous crew at our barbecue.
They wanted their chow and they wanted it ‘Now!’ —
Where were You at our barbecue?

6. A bloke in a dress said ‘No need for stress,
Let’s have no set-to at this barbecue.
Providing nutrition is part of my mission’ —
Thanks to You for our barbecue!

7. ‘Just get on with lighting the grill, and stop fighting
A battle in lieu of a barbecue.
Let’s have no resistance, I’ll sort the subsistence’ —
Thanks to You for our barbecue!

8. ‘Though lots of us clergy study fish thaumaturgy,
I don’t often do a barbecue.’
He worked like a Trojan, this ichtheologian —
Thanks to You for our barbecue!

9. The crowd grew less livid as the portions were divvied:
Plenty to chew at our barbecue.
With ev’ryone sated this Messiah was feted —
Thanks to You for our barbecue!

My Omnipotent Lord

1. He is three in one,
His will shall be done.
He’s called
My omnipotent Lord.

2. He is born again,
He can ease my pain.
He’s called
My omnipotent Lord.

3. He made the earth and sea,
And He can set me free.
He made each girl and boy,
So He can bring me joy.

4. His work will not cease,
He can give me peace.
He’s called
My omnipotent Lord.

5. He is three in one,
His will shall be done.
He’s called
My omnipotent Lord.

Bear the Cross Aloft

1. We don’t know what’s in store for us:
Our future isn’t in our freezers.
But we’ll joyfully accept
Life’s little setbacks and its teasers.
Render unto God what’s godly
And to Caesar what is Caesar’s.
Join the victory procession,
Bear the cross aloft for Jesus!

2. All are welcome to join us:
Friends as well as silly geezers.
Wash your souls and wring them out
Like oranges on orange squeezers.
Tread with care, revere the planet,
Only touch the plants with tweezers.
We can change the world together:
Bear the cross aloft for Jesus!

Jesus, What's Your Middle Name?

1. Jesus, Jesus, what’s Your middle name?
Humphrey, Humphrey, that’s Your middle name.
Yours alone the living waters,
The well of life where all may come free;
We come with our sons and daughters
To Your fountain, Jesus Humphrey Christ,
(For my sake You were sacrificed,)
Oh Christ, Oh Christ, Oh Thank You Jesus Humphrey Christ.

2. Jesus, Jesus, what’s Your middle name?
Hector, Hector, that’s Your middle name.
Three in one and one in three,
Father, Son and Holy Spectre;
My faith is in the Trinity,
Have faith in me O Jesus Hector Christ,
(For my sake You were sacrificed,)
Oh Christ, Oh Christ, Oh Thank You Jesus Hector Christ.

3. Jesus, Jesus, what’s Your middle name?
Herman, Herman, that’s Your middle name.
In Heaven I shall speak all tongues,
Swahili, Hebrew, Greek and German,
I shall sing with joyful lungs
Your praises in them, Jesus Herman Christ,
(For my sake You were sacrificed,)
Oh Christ, Oh Christ, Oh Thank You Jesus Herman Christ.

4. Jesus, Jesus, what’s Your middle name?
Hubert, Hubert, that’s Your middle name.
The gates of Heav’n admit no sin;
They open at a word from You, but
Some will never enter in.
O let me enter, Jesus Hubert Christ,
(For my sake You were sacrificed,)
Oh Christ, Oh Christ, Oh Thank You Jesus Hubert Christ.

5. Jesus, Jesus, what’s Your middle name?
Harold, Harold, that’s Your middle name.
You will stand at Judgment Day
In a blaze of light apparelled:
Grant eternal life, I pray,
To me then, O Jesus Harold Christ,
(For my sake You were sacrificed,)
Oh Christ, Oh thank You, Jesus, Jesus H. Christ.

Blood of Christ

1. Perhaps you like Zinfandel or a nice Fitou
But they don’t hold a candle to the true communion brew.
And if it’s Blue Nun drives you crazy or a glass of Sauternes
If you like Sangiovese here’s what you gotta learn:
You should be drinking

Chorus:
Blood of Christ!
I said it’s blood of Christ!
We think it’s really nice!
Oh as we take a sip
We’re starting on a trip
That ends in paradise
With this the blood of Christ!
With this the blood of Christ!
With the blood of Christ.

2. If your tipple is Chianti or Languedoc
Your hopes are looking scanty when on Heaven’s gate you knock
It’s an unholy misdemeanour swigging Minervois
And you know Gewürztraminer lacks that ‘je ne sais quoi’.
You need that

Chorus

3. You might like a drop of Syrah or Liebfraumilch
But you’d best curb that desire or your salvation chance is zilch.
So now you’re knocking back Frascati and downing Chablis
But you’ll find the final party isn’t P.B.A.B.

4. There’s only one bev’rage to keep you from hell
And the one to get that lev’rage ain’t a Valpolicella.
You’ll just have to swallow what I’m telling you
It’s easy to follow: here’s what you gotta do:
You gotta drink that

Chorus

March for Jesus

1. March for Jesus, march for God,
Take the cross to the downtrod:
Shine the light into their eyes
So they to Heav’n one day may rise.

2. Good or evil, straight or bent,
It matters not, if you repent;
Jesus saves them life and limb
As long as they have heard of Him.

Pray for flowers, pray for trees;
Pray for heathens, pray for fleas;
Only we can save them now:
Buddhist, Hindu, sheep and cow.

3. Humble Christians, take the News
Wash away contrary views;
When all the world is at God’s feet
Our holy task will be complete.

Pray for me and pray for you;
Pray for our relations too;
Shine the light into our eyes
So we to Heaven
We to Heaven
We to Heaven one day may rise.

Come Turn to Me

1. I thought I knew my way
But Jesus came to say
Come turn to Me
And you will see
Come turn to Me
And you will see.

2. I saw I had been wrong
And sang a diff’rent song:
And I did find
I had been blind
And I did find
I had been blind.

3. I turned to Jesus Christ
That had been sacrificed,
And joyful then
Was born again
And joyful then
Was born again.

4. So come now join with me
And all the world can see
That God saves all
Who hear His call
That God saves all
Who hear His call.

If Jesus Were a Plumber

1. If Jesus were a plumber then
I’d ask Him for a sink:
He’d make the living waters flow
And ev’ryone could drink.

2. If Jesus were a butcher then
I’d ask Him for some meat:
And ev’ry piece He gave me
Would be very good to eat.

3. If Jesus were a stationer
I’d ask Him for a pen:
I’d copy down the word of God
To make it clear to men.

4. If Jesus were a bricklayer
I’d ask Him for a wall:
And even Joshua’s trumpets
Couldn’t ever make it fall.

5. If Jesus were a locksmith then
I’d ask Him for a key:
He’d cut me one to open up
The gates of Heav’n for me.

6. But Jesus is my Saviour so
I ask for nothing more
Than the eternal life in Heav’n
He’s got for me in store!

Try and Get By

1. Let’s all pray toward our munificent Lord.
He made all the paints at the DIY store.
So if when first you see some décor
You feel quite averse to the hideous eyesore,
Don’t sigh and don’t cry,
Just try and get by,
By praising the Lord.

2. The works of the Lord are too often ignored.
He made all our sunshine, rain, wind and much more.
So if you’re out in a fierce downpour,
And you’ll be undoubtedly soaked to the core,
Don’t sigh and don’t cry,
Just try and get by,
By praising the Lord.

3. It’s time we explored the great gifts of the Lord.
He made all our loved ones that we so adore.
So if a nudge to your paramour
Just means they don’t budge and continue to snore,
Don’t sigh and don’t cry,
Just try and get by,
By praising the Lord.

4. Give thanks to the Lord, all with one accord.
He made 9-to-5 jobs for people galore.
So if it’s just gone a quarter to four
And you’re told you must do some tedious chore,
Don’t sigh and don’t cry,
Just try and get by,
By praising the Lord.

5. Let us all record our true love for the Lord.
He made all our songs, ev’ry musical score.
So if you found some concert a bore,
But those all around you are shouting ‘encore!’,
Don’t sigh and don’t cry,
Just try and get by,
By praising the Lord.

I Rejoice in Each Day

I have found the Lord
And He has found me,
So I stand here in awe
At His majesty
And rejoice in each day
Because I love Him,
And He loves me
In a special way.

1. Praise the Lord, He’s awesome,
Praise the Lord, He’s bad;
Praise the Lord, He’s cracking,
Make your neighbours glad.

2. Praise the Lord in winter,
Praise the Lord in spring;
Praise the Lord in Autumn,
Praise O praise the King.

3. Praise the Lord He’s brilliant,
Praise the Lord He’s great;
Praise the Lord He’s topper,
Praise Him He’s your mate.

4. Praise the Lord in April,
Praise the Lord in May;
Praise Him in December,
Praise Him ev’ry day.

5. Praise the Lord He’s pukka,
Praise the Lord He’s sound;
Praise the Lord He’s wicked,
Spread love all around.

Oh yes I Thank You Lord, Thank You Lord,

Oh yes I Thank You Lord, Thank You Lord,
Universally!

And yes I Thank You Lord, I truly Thank You Lord,

Christ is Coming (Lay the Table)

1. Christ is coming —
Lay the table —
Christ is coming today.
Gladly put the knives and forks out,
Christ is coming to stay.

2. Christ is coming —
Put the sheets out —
Christ is coming today.
Puff the pillows, spread the duvet,
Christ is coming to stay.

3. Christ is coming —
Clean the carpet —
Christ is coming today.
Sweep out all the dusty corners,
Christ is coming to stay.

4. Christ is coming —
Fat the calf up —
Christ is coming today.
Break the bread and pour the new wine,
Christ is coming to stay.

5. Christ is coming —
Call the neighbours —
Christ is coming today.
Tell them all to join the party,
Christ is coming
Christ is coming
Christ is coming
Christ is coming
Christ is coming to stay.
